Old Town
Although a very touristy part of Scottsdale the Old Town is still popular and worth a look, especially if you want to do some souvenir or gift shopping. There’s a good selection of these shops here, all situated within buildings that caricature most people’s impression of the old American West. Kids and adults will probably enjoy this part of Scottsdale if they’ve seen one too many Cowboy and Indian films! Scottsdale Arts District The benefit of visiting Old Town is that you’re right next door to Scottsdale Arts District. The city is renowned for its high number of galleries and museums, many of which are dedicated to western and Native American art. Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art For a change from the Native American and western themed art galleries there is the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art. This is the only such permanent museum in the state of Arizona, and it’s located in the Old Town part of the city. It has works from around the world which are showcased in five galleries, and an outdoor sculpture garden. Taliesin West The former winter home of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright is one of the top tourist attractions in the whole of Arizona. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Taliesin West was designed and built by Wright in 1937 and still acts as the home of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. The home and gardens are open for tours. Shopping in Scottsdale Scottsdale is a top city for shopaholics as there are many different places where you can enjoy shopping here. Old Town has its boutiques and gift shops, though you’ll also find enclosed shopping malls too such as the Scottsdale Fashion Square. Big names like Macy’s, Nordstrom, Gucci, Tiffany & Co, and Burberry are all situated here. |
