The Tourist Attractions in Georgia:
Atlanta

Atlanta is the capital and largest city of Georgia, known for its old southern charm but also as a modern city with plenty of things to see and do.

Amongst the attractions is the Georgia Aquarium, said to be the largest aquarium in the world with thousands of water creatures swimming around in 8 million gallons of water! The New World of Coca-Cola is also a popular attraction. Coca-Cola’s headquarters are here in Atlanta and you can tour the factory. Other buildings of note in the city include the Georgia State Capitol, built in 1889 this is a large building with a distinctive gold dome. There’s a museum here which has been open since the building first opened.

Savannah

Georgia’s very first city is Savannah, settled in 1733 by British colonists the city still retains much of its historical character and actually features one of the largest historic districts in the US. These old areas are what attract visitors to the city along with the seaside location. There are a huge number of historic public squares here, each with a story to tell plus the City Market and River Street are popular destinations too.

Blue Ridge

The small resort town of Blue Ridge is the gateway to the mountains of Georgia and is especially beautiful during the autumn for its fall colours. During the summer the mountain lake here is very popular too. This is also at the foothills of the Appalachian Trail, a National Scenic Trail which runs a total of 3360 kilometres (2100 miles). Georgia is just one of the 14 states it passes through!

Augusta

The city of Augusta is probably best known these days as being the home of the Masters golf tournament, but the city is also historically important and has many old buildings, monuments and more to see too.

Wildlife

A good place to see wildlife and nature is the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. There are swamplands and coastal forests here with the chance to see alligators and other reptiles and amphibians such as turtles, toads, frogs, lizards and snakes, but bird life is also abundant here too, especially wading birds like herons, cranes, egrets and bitterns.
When Should You Visit?:

Georgia mainly has a humid subtropical climate with hot and sticky summers and mild winters. The high in summer in Atlanta is 32C (89F) in July, whilst the winter high in January is 11C (52F) and the low 1C (34F). Some cities get hotter than Atlanta though and Georgia as a whole can experience periods of drought with very little rainfall. Savannah and Augusta, for example, usually average several degrees higher than Atlanta.
