The Tourist Attractions in Pennsylvania:
Harrisburg

The capital city of Pennsylvania is Harrisburg. A big attraction here is the State Capitol Building – a huge building built in the Beaux Arts style in 1902. Free tours are offered for those visitors who’d like to see inside.

Compared to the other major cities in Pennsylvania, Harrisburg is quite small; it’s actually the 10th largest city in the state, but this fact makes it quite appealing as it has a smaller city feel about it. Other attractions include numerous museums, a paddlewheel riverboat cruise, art galleries and more.

Philadelphia

The largest city in Pennsylvania is Philadelphia. Known as the City of Brotherly Love, this is a huge place with a great many attractions. Highlights include the Philadelphia Museum of Art where a statue of Rocky stands outside, and inside is one of the world’s largest collections of art. Historic sites include the famous Liberty Bell and Constitution Hall, both of which are part of the greater Independence National Historic Park. Philadelphia is also home to America’s first zoo which houses a huge collection of animals.

Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh is the second largest city in Pennsylvania and is famous for having been built on its steel industry. Again this is a huge city with dozens of different attractions – there are numerous museums, including a collection of ‘Carnegie’ Museums, and the Andy Warhol Museum. An excellent place to get a view of the city is from Mount Washington.

Gettysburg

One of the most famous battle sites in the USA is Gettysburg, the site of one of the most important battles to take place during the Civil War in July 1863. The town of Gettysburg has accommodation and a great many restaurants, so you can stay a day or two. As well as touring the actual battlefields there are a couple of museums in the town, including Gettysburg Hall of Presidents Museum and the National Civil War Wax Museum.

Scenic Destinations in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania has 121 State Parks, all with free admission, so there’s plenty of opportunity for visitors to enjoy some of the scenic side to the state.

Popular destinations also include the Poconos Mountains where the usual hiking, fishing and camping recreational activities are popular, and there are many small towns in the region to visit. In the winter you can visit the region’s major ski resort.
When Should You Visit?:

With a mix of mountains, lowlands, vicinity to the Atlantic Ocean and a coast on Lake Erie, Pennsylvania also has a variety of climates! The south eastern part of the state is the warmest, and up into the mountains becomes the coolest.

Philadelphia, for example, has warm summers with an average high in July of 30C (86F). Winters are cool with an average high of 4C (39F) in January and low of -4C (25F).
